Tickle Cat trekked to China and Japan and discovered a delicacy called Tamago Kake Gohan. Here it is:
Chinese Version
1 cup of white rice
sausage or ham
1-2 Tbsp soy sauce depending on how salty you like
1 Tbsp oyster sauce
2 tsp honey
2 eggs scrambled
1/2 cup peas
1 tomato chopped
Flake salt
Japanese Version
1 cup of white rice
1-2 eggs
1/2 Tsp soy sauce
Chinese Preparation Instructions:
- Add rice to rice cooker and wash rice until water runs clear. Add water and sausage/ham before setting rice cooker to on.
- While rice cooks, in a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce and honey until combined.
- Once rice is done, quickly open the cooker and evenly pour egg all over the top of the rice. Immediately cover the rice cooker to trap the heat. Let the eggs cook in the residual heat for 8-10 minutes.
- Once eggs are cooked, gently stir to break up eggs and mix into the rice. Next, gently stir in the sauce and peas.
- Sprinkle tomatoes with flake salt and serve tomatoes over the rice.
Japanese Preparation Instructions:

- When rice is done, place in bowl and make a small dent in the centre.
- Pour egg into bow of steaming hot rice, add a few seasonings, then use chopsticks to whip the egg vigorously into the rice. Its ready when the mixture becomes pale yellow, creamy, and slightly frothy.
